Hydrological Analysis of Extreme Rain Events in a Medium-Sized Basin

چکیده

The hydrological response of a medium-sized watershed with both rural and urban characteristics was investigated through event-based modeling. Different meteorological event conditions were examined, such as events high precipitation intensity, double peak, mainly normal to wet antecedent moisture conditions. Analysis the hydrometric features conducted by comparing different rainfall time intervals, total volume water, precedent soil moisture. Parameter model calibration validation performed for under similar conditions, examined in pairs, order verify two models, lumped HEC-HMS (Hydrologic Engineering Center’s Hydrologic Modeling System model) semi-distributed HBV-light (a recent version Hydrologiska Byråns Vattenbalansavdelning model), at exit six individual gauged sub-basins. Model verification achieved using Nash–Sutcliffe efficiency error index. concentration (Tc) formulas are better applied sub-watersheds respect dominant land uses, classifying Tc among most sensitive parameters that influence appearance magnitude peak modeled flow model. maximum water content box (FC) affects via model, whereas MAXBAS parameter has greatest effect on displayed discharge. modeling results show had less compared their pairs. higher precipitated produced rest satisfactorily models. April July is flood hazard period will be worsened climate change. suggested calibrated severe can used prediction future features. above resources management basin.

Extending medium-range predictability of extreme hydrological events in Europe

Widespread flooding occurred across northwest Europe during the winter of 2013/14, resulting in large socioeconomic damages. In the historical record, extreme hydrological events have been connected with intense water vapour transport. Here we show that water vapour transport has higher medium-range predictability compared with precipitation in the winter 2013/14 forecasts from the European Cen...

Characteristics of U.S. Extreme Rain Events during 1999–2003

This study examines the characteristics of a large number of extreme rain events over the eastern two-thirds of the United States. Over a 5-yr period, 184 events are identified where the 24-h precipitation total at one or more stations exceeds the 50-yr recurrence amount for that location. Over the entire region of study, these events are most common in July. In the northern United States, extr...

Weakest-Link Scaling and Extreme Events in Finite-Sized Systems

Weakest-link scaling is used in the reliability analysis of complex systems. It is characterized by the extensivity of the hazard function instead of the entropy. The Weibull distribution is the archetypical example of weakest-link scaling, and it describes variables such as the fracture strength of brittle materials, maximal annual rainfall, wind speed and earthquake return times. We investiga...

Projecting future climate change effects on the extreme hydrological drought events in the Weihe River basin, China

In this study, a framework to project the potential future climate change impacts on extreme hydrological drought events in the Weihe River basin in North China is presented. This framework includes a largescale hydrological model driven by climate outputs from a regional climate model for historical streamflow simulations and future streamflow projections, and models for univariate drought ass...
